Appendix D
Checklist for Geotechnical and Soils Reports

This checklist is meant to help the architect understand the scope and deliverables of the geotechnical engineer or geologist. It also provides guidance in procuring a suitable report on the subsurface conditions of soils, ground water and sediments, which then may be used to inform the site plan, earthworks, soil compaction, structural foundations, and the potential for geothermal technologies to be used on the site. A geotechnical report helps reduce the assumptions that the architect must make, and facilitates a design which is more responsive to any adverse subsurface conditions.
